From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Planners tables.
