The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

As any major honors show draws close, you'll find a demand for the addition fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
