Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found many other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official commented the incident rendered him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
